Toilet post #1

Let's do tummy's second thought of necessity ..

Followed a friend to an office building. Friend went to pick up some documents, I visited the washroom. It was bright & clean. AND it has toiletpaper. AND the flush sensor worked! Yes, in Malaysia, we appreciate such things and 'trained' not to take such things for granted. No, the second picture of stained glass was not the toilet door but the front of the building. My photo certainly does not do it justice but I just love it.

Restoran Ching Hai for Sunday Breakfast

UPDATE: This stall has moved. It's now at Jalan Utara, Off Jalan Imbi. Here, click on this link to get the map!

That'a a perfect picture of a fantabulous meal. It was a late Sun breakfast actually. Had the following:-

The very much non-halal char-siew (BBQ pork strips) was most tender & 'juicy'. The sar-hor-fan was noodles with chicken strips & fresh succulent prawns in fragrant chicken broth topped with plenty of spring onions. Looks simple but most satisfying. As for the last picture, curry wantan mee, it's only fair to say it was a winner too. Nope, did not taste it. Phitoi whacked it faster than a speeding bullet! That's why I rated it highly!

Where's the shop? Easy peasy find. It's a corner coffeeshop at the end of a row of pre-war houses right at the back of the famous Jalan Alor, known as Tengkat Tong Shin. Directly opposite Corona Inn & it looks like this:-

The stalls selling the above dishes are open for breakfast & lunch only. In the evenings, another stall which fries noodles & Chinese dishes which commonly accompany rice operates in front of the coffeeshop.

Fast Food Fish Head Restaurant, Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur

Been there several times for lunch but usually on weekends where parking & the crowd is more manageable. This restaurant specialises in wild river fishes that are caught in Pahang state. I have no idea what fish was ordered. It was claimed to be one 1 of the bestsellers which sounded like 'Nim-yue-chiu-phai-cheng' roughly translated as 'Nim fish steamed in the restaurant's special way'. Price quoted was RM68 per kg!

Only the fish head was served to us. Noted that it has a kind of 'tentacles' near its mouth. Pity I forgot to take a picture of its teeth. There were at least 6 tight rows of small sharp teeth. The black piece seen on the lower left of the photo is not black fungus but the fish's skin. Yes, it was smooth with no scales. The flesh? Most succulent! No muddy smell. Excellent stuff!
The above potato greens stir fried with garlic was OK. Plate of mixed fruits (papaya, pineapple & honeydew) was complimentary.

Total bill was:- Add:
Restaurant Fast Food Fish Head, 58, Jalan Radin Tengah, 57000 Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

Royal China royal bill

That's the ceiling lights hanging at the restaurant located along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur opposite Citibank headoffice. Impressive-leh!

Went in confidently with RM100 voucher in pocket which Tummythoz & partner (Phitoy), expecting to enjoy a good free dinner. So wrong-nya (a Malaysian expression to emphasize disappointment).

The waiters/watresses there spoke mainly, if not exclusively, Mandarin. Had a bit of problem as both of us are typical 'bananas' [a nickname for Chinese-language-illiterate Chinese ie. yellow coloured skin (representing Chinese people's skin) but white (as in Caucasion) inside]. Like any Chinese restaurant, appetiser was served without delay. Instead of plain, roasted or salted peanuts, it was a small plate of tasty mixture of anchovies, peanuts and long beans. Started off ordering steamed cod fish and a newly introduced green organic vegetables stir fried in garlic, to go with steamed white rice. The vege was recommended by the hostess and was not listed in the menu. She cannot name it in English. However, just as the hostess started to walk away, we decided to fry the vege with ha-kau (shelled prawns) just in case the vege turns out to be bitter or too plain.

Sorry about the pictures being a bit blur. Was using phone's camera. Also, did not manage to take picture of cod fish due to the speed Phitoy attacked it.

We shared a small bowl of kuai-leng-kou (a black jelly-like blob made from tortoise shell powder) with honey for dessert.

Personal opinion, naturally: Steamed Cod fish - we had better. Vege with ha-kau - other than the vege's taste had traces of Chinese chives and spring onion, it was nothing exceptional. The prawns put me off though. They were not de-veined! Dessert tasted norm though the honey was not watered down like some dessert shops.

The royal bill came to (drum rolls..) RM129.00 or so!! (Sorry, only estimate available as chucked the bill). Why so high? Because they charged separately for the prawns! The prawns that were stir fried in the vege!! Those un-deveined beings alone costed RM30.00!! Ok, ok. They were quite big but I keep thinking that maybe we should had ordered the prawns as a different dish. At least some extra work would be thrown in to justify the price. Or am I being most unreasonable? Is that how supposedly upper class restaurants charge nowadays? Please enlighten.

Something else irked me. The service we received. It was overwhelming. We were there before 7pm on a Friday. We were the first! Later we found this is not good as we had the full attention of all the staff there. FULL ATTENTION, I say. They kept 'cruising' around our table & checking on the piece of order chit which was slipped into a plastic container on our table. How many staff/waiters/hostesses and number of times do you need to make sure the food ordered arrived? At least 5 of the former and every 7 minutes of the latter! 'Alo, we only ordered 2 main dishes. That tough to remember???

Nope. Did not visit its toilet. Too conscious to make any sudden movement ..

MAIDEN POST

'Alo u there. TQ for dropping by. Yup, 1st post in my 1st blog. Yup, been living in d dark caves until now.

My tagline rings true for me. So, I'll concentrate on all food establishments where size really does not matter.

A food & toilet combination does not seem 'hygienic'. But u cannot do one without availability of the other, right? Ha-ha. So, 'lil me plan to collect pictures of the latter but to keep everyone's appetite intact, only of the clean presentable ones. Phew indeed.

Sincerely hope u will enjoy & come back often..
