A Case of Keong Kee Restaurant's Har-Lok Meen

Correct-ion correct-ion correct-ion. I did a boo-boo. I recommended a dish called Har-Lok Meen here which I claimed was Mantis Prawn Noodles. Forgive me.

It’s actually Fresh Water Prawns like those used in Sang Har Meen. No matter whether the serving is for 2 pax or one, it comes with a minimum of 2 large prawns. This is how it looks like.My picture displays a blob I know but trust me this once, it’s all fingers, toes, any flexible limbs-up good. Failing that, less men more share then. Muahahahaha *background noise: stampede of bathroom scales and measuring tapes out my room*.

Sis came for a spin last weekend. Typical of all non-KLites, she asked for the black lardy-lard-lard luscious Hokkien Mee. We proceeded to Mun Wah Hokkien Mee along Jalan Maharajalela where she had been before but she was not satisfied. Not wet enough, she cried. Huh? The next night I thought maybe here can do better. Sadly no. they cannot as they only do ‘white’ dishes ie only Cantonese style except for their specialty pictured above. (-_-)”. Oh well. I went ahead and ordered 3 dishes to be shared among 3 of us.

Gau-Yok-Hor (Flat Rice Noodles With Beef) for 1 pax. Oooh they serve one of the best around town!Choi-Sam-Miew (Baby Mustard leaves)Har-Lok-Meen (Spicy Fresh Water Prawns Noodles) for 2 pax. The picture below is my small plate. The noodles had been thoroughly mixed with the spicy sauce in the serving plate. The sauce tasted somewhat like ‘kung-pou’. Very appetizing.Oh, that blob was a prawn head.

Sis is a bit upset now. She is upset she was introduced to this dish late. She cannot have seconds as that was her last night here for this trip. To pacify her, I will try to have this often on her behalf and revert. *pat righteous self*

Bill: RM66.00 (RM50 for their specialty - blob). Exclude drinks.

Location:- Please check out my old post. Easier way would be offer to buy me the blob!

I've never tried anything other than their hokkien mee. Call me if you need company to share the blob. My office is quite nearby.

rm50 for har look meen?? It must have been really good, but like you said, picture looked less than appealing though. I hope the mee is not maggi mee like it looked, lol! The beef noodles looked great.

lyrical lemongrass, usually do dinner there. Btw u do mean u order your share, I do mine, right? Muahahahaha.

hazza, it's 'sang meen' like those in Wantan Noodles.
Surely Beef noodles are still way behind your lobster Wan-than Hor.

jojo, haha I'll just buy her a personal plate when she next visit-lor.

jason, didn't know I weave such influence! Actually not really hot. Almost like a bit of slow burn one gets from dried chilies or black peppers.

nic (khkl), pakcik boss let's leave the doggie munching to Teckiee.

joe, I prefer the prawns prepared as the blob.

I am not here to deny how delicious Ah Keong's noodles can be (as we didn't get a chance to taste it) but to share with everyone a true incident that happened to some poor old folks who dined at Ah Keong's Restaurant yesterday.

We were a little annoyed by the "Taukeh Soh" who took our order as she stopped us from ordering a vegetable. Duh~ It is just a normal fried vegetable that we asked for. With the reason she gave us - NO TIME! THERE IS ONLY ONE COOK. I DON'T WANT HIM TO FRIED. Alright. We noted and we settled with 2 noodles and 1 fish. While we are waiting, a table of 4 diners next to us called for the "Taukeh Soh" to check on their repeat order. To our surprise, "Taukeh Soh" was so rude to them and speak very loudly saying that "No, I am not fying the noodle for you because you ordered too slowly. I have too many customers now and I am NOT fying the repeat order noodle for you". And then, she walked away. The puzzled looking diners were so surprise with her reaction. Then, they had no choice but to ask for a bill. During payment, they made a little remark just so that at least they are informed if they repeat order is not taken "seriously".

Then the "Taukeh Soh's son" walked out from the kitchen and made another SHOCKING REMARK in Cantonese: You old people, stop the whole world from moving!" (For the benefit of those of you who may not understand Cantonese, it means you are a trouble. Buzz off!)

The poor old diners walked away disssapointedly. We on the other hand, left together with the old diners. How can us - Malaysians tolerate with such rude people when we are paying? Aren't customers supposed to be respected?

Frankly, no matter how delicious or how good comments they have got with their noodle, at least.... my colleagues and myself will NEVER STEP INTO the restaurant anymore. As for you who are reading this comment, it is your call whether you want to dine there or not.

come on..there is not one these two dishes at there...
they do mainly in cantonese fried...
and derives in 3 main ingredient...
BEEF, MIX(PORK AND SHRIMP), BIG HEAD PRAWN..
and these three ingredient can goes with vermicelli(mee hoon), flat rice noodle(keow teow), and fried yellow noodle(yee mee)...
like you heard many people ordered.. ying yong..ying yong means mixture of meehoon and keow teow..and the "hor" theme used in the "Gau Yok Hor" mean keow teow...get it? "hor" = hor fun it also means keow teow...

so besides cantonese fried noodles...they also have side dishes like vegetables( vege of the day...selected by the chef himself), chicken, and fresh water fish...

chicken, there is two type..stewed and steamed...
stewed will be bitter gourd stewed chicken while steamed,
steamed chicken with black fungus and tiny mushroom..
steamed chicken with marinated veges..

then, fresh water fish...they sell fresh water fish from the selection of the chef himself.....

sometimes there will be some sea fishes...depends on the chef...
